State Medical Record Laws: Minimum Medical Record Retention Periods for Records Held by Medical Doctors and Hospitals.

Adult patients

5 years beyond the date the patient was last seen.

Minor patients

3 years past the age of majority (i.e., until the patient turns 21).

Deceased patients

3 years beyond the date of death.
